Question of the Day #176 King

X was adopted as mascot in 1946, created by Y's then commercial director Bobby Kooka, and Umesh Rao, an artist with J. Walter Thompson Ltd. X began as a rich Indian potentate, symbolizing graciousness and high living. Creators gave him a distinctive personality: his outsized moustache, the striped turban and his aquiline nose.

Identify X & Y.
